#linode IRC Logs for 2019-10-26

---Logopened Sat Oct 26 00:00:13 2019
00:15<kenyon>my linode's network interface changed from enp0s3 to enp0s4 over that maintenance reboot :/

00:29<chesty>that's a pain. I'm using the linode ubuntu image, I think because there's only ever going to be one "physical" ethernet interface each linode sees, it names the first one it sees eth0. I think that's a linode modification as ubuntu by default uses the same naming scheme as what yours is using
00:35<chesty>I believe it's net.ifnames=0 in /etc/default/grub GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX that changes it to use ethx naming convention.
00:35<millisa>https://www.linode.com/docs/troubleshooting/disaster-recovery-guide/#was-your-interface-renamed
00:36<Peng_>calling that "disaster recovery" makes it sound even worse somehow
00:38<kharlan>I imagine people screaming and running into walls because their interfaces have been renamed.
00:41<millisa>I guess the newer version has less fire and screaming: https://www.linode.com/docs/troubleshooting/troubleshooting-basic-connection-issues/#was-your-interface-renamed
00:41<kenyon>I'm going to do like this first example and match on the MAC address https://wiki.debian.org/NetworkInterfaceNames#CUSTOM_SCHEMES_USING_.LINK_FILES
00:50<chesty>that sounds like the best way to me, thanks for sharing.

01:01<chesty>I think you should name it Ich1ve0 which is only a little harder to remember than the enps scheme. so far I haven't been able to remember any interfaces names on the various boxes I use, even linode eth0 I have to remember it's not using the new naming scheme

17:53<skyfaller>Hi folks, I have a domain pointing to a Linode on my personal account, and I need to move it to a different Linode on a different account. Are there any gotchas or weird tricks I should know about before attempting this?
18:04-!-benc [~Ofir@5.29.226.133] has left #linode []
18:27<grawity>has nothing to do with Linode accounts or even the destination being a linode at all
18:28<grawity>are you moving the whole nameservers (changing NS records), or just regular services like web (A/AAAA records)?
18:39<skyfaller>ok, I actually just realized that what I'm moving now is only a series of subdomains, where I have to change the A/AAAA records on Godaddy.
18:39<skyfaller>But I'm still interested in this question for the future
18:41<skyfaller>so on my registrar I point the nameservers for my domain to Linode's nameservers. Then I add an NS record and A/AAAA record in my control panel. Is it possible for two Linode accounts to have conflicting data in their Domains control panels?
18:42<skyfaller>like can my personal account have one A/AAAA record and my org's account have a different A/AAAA record for the same domain? Sorry if this is a stupid question
