13:16<Guest10614>how do I go about migrating from one hosting company to Linode
13:24<@jyoo>It depends on what you're moving and where you're coming from (i.e. shared hosting or another cloud platform) - we have some guides that can walk you through the process https://www.linode.com/docs/guides/platform/migrate-to-linode/
13:36<LouWestin>Guest10614: Linode is un-managed too btw

19:12<Xion>virtual: borg is boss
19:14<virtual>ta, Xion
19:16<virtual>I just came across duplicati... this could be handy to backup the windows machines too. hmm.

19:21<Xion>Borg doesn't run natively on Windows
19:21<Xion>You'll have to run it via Cygwin, WSL or a VM
19:21<Xion>Or run it over a CIFS share
19:24<virtual>yeah. I couldn't see anything about windows on borg. But it's not a big deal. I can have a separate system for windows vs linux. But if I don't need to...

19:57<chesty>I used to use borg, very space efficient but very resource intensive. I can't rant enough about zfs. I back up every out and it's instant, I also send it off to a backup server and it's just like scping one file.
19:57<chesty>sorry, I snapshot every hour
19:58<chesty>snapshots are instant.
19:58<chesty>transfer the snapshot to a backup server via ssh once an hour
19:58<chesty>have a policy to keep x number of hourly snapshots, x number of daily, x number of monthly, x number of yearly
19:59<virtual>I just haven't got zfs machines yet though.
19:59<virtual>that's a thing I need to do in the future
19:59<chesty>anything that works on the file system level that only stores the difference will use a lot of io and cpu
20:00<virtual>on the backed up machine? Yes, I'm generally OK with that, because my machines aren't exactly super busy - hobby stuff, not business

20:01<chesty>borg uses lots of io and cpu on both, it has to do a binary diff on the production machine
20:01<virtual>y u make dis difficult
20:02<chesty>maybe it has a setting where it transfers the file from the production machine to the backup machine and does the diff there

20:02<ssa>dallas networking issues!!
20:02<virtual>nah, that would suck more - as my backup 'server' is at home :)
20:02<chesty>the football team ssa?
20:02<virtual>ssa: :(
20:03<ssa>cloud.linode.com was giving 503 nginx page too. but it just restored
20:03<chesty>you're the first to mention it ssa, probably won't be the last
20:03<millisa>didn't notice anything and most my stuff is there
20:04<ssa>i wasn't able to ssh into my boxes until just now
20:04<ssa>so i guess the issue didn't last long
20:04<chesty>next time run an mtr
20:04<chesty>there might have been an issue closer to home? no idea
20:05<ssa>i had a customer complain as well… which is why i got up to look
20:06<chesty>ah. no one else as mentioned it in here ssa.
20:06<ssa>yeah i hope it was nothing
