08:06<harjuu>hi! i'm using linode together with nextcloud (from snap) and i'm finding that i will be running out of space soon, i'm using the 25gb plan. does anyone know of a convenient way to use linodes block storage to add an external volume to nextcloud without having to move the entire nextcloud instance?
08:08<rsdehart>harjuu: forgive me if this isn't helpful, but I'm not familiar with the workings of nextcloud
08:10<harjuu>rsdehart: thanks! yeah i did read that article. i didn't totally understand how that method worked and i wasn't sure if it was what i wanted.
08:12<rsdehart>this is a bit of a slow time in here
08:13<harjuu>i see. do you have any suggestions for where i could turn for some help on this?
08:17<rsdehart>harjuu: #nextcloud on Freenode has a lot of people in it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
08:17<harjuu>i'll give that a shot. thanks!

10:30<LouWestin>Interesting upgrade read regarding Let's Encrypt
10:31<LouWestin>I wonder what the cost of such a server would be? The CPUs alone are what? $2000 usd?
10:33<kharlan>probably in the 10-20 grand range.
10:42<LouWestin>Newegg shows that the processor alone is $3,825. x 2 $7,650.
10:44<kharlan>yep, plus another 6-8 for those nvmes :p
10:50<LouWestin>Yep yep!
11:24<dwfreed>Keep in mind that they won't be paying retail prices
11:24<dwfreed>They might not have even paid anything
11:25<dwfreed>(ISRG is a 501c3, so if a company were to donate them servers, it'd be a tax write-off)

12:38<Peng>I've been running "ping6". Some pings take 2-3 seconds. Usually it's normal.
12:38<Peng>Maybe it's running on the server with 90% steal. :D
12:40<nuevu>mcivi helped with a live migration of that machine last night. Was pretty funny watching vmstat go from 40%+ on one report to 0% 5 seconds later.
12:41<Peng>Nice :D
12:42<nuevu>For what it's worth, from ~Dallas, I'm not seeing any pings to Atlanta lish taking longer than 60ms.
12:44<Peng>For me it seems to happen at least once every couple minutes

14:33<schlimig>I'm trying still to get a Galera cluster running using Ubuntu 18.04LTS and it's just failing every time. Is there anything Linode changes about the Ubuntu images or the kernel which could potentially be causing an issue with Galera?
14:40<hays>can i run crypto miniing in a linode or is that considered abuse
14:43<LouWestin>schlimig: can you give us specific logs that note the failure? You can post large amounts of text in pastbin
14:44<LouWestin>hays: I'm 99 percent sure you cannot
14:44<schlimig>Sure, I'll just sanitise some data
14:45<Peng>hays: Check the AUP section about using excessive system resources. It's either implicitly or explicitly banned.
14:45<schlimig>Even on a dedicated GPU instance?
14:46<hays>Peng: i wonder if there is a way to keep it under control with systemd
14:53<schlimig>OK so I have created an Ubuntu18.04LTS from the Linode images, no changes to kernel, profile settings - just bog standard. Updated the machine. Firewalled (tried in various ways, ufw/iptables) the 3 nodes to be able to freely communicate incoming, default outgoing rule accept. I've followed this tutorial and others which are almost identical ( )
14:55<schlimig>I can bring up the first node, it reports that cluster size is 1. After a while, or a reboot, it fails to come back up and I get a "ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)" error. Sometimes bringing up other nodes makes the cluster size go up, other times nothing. Here is the log from node 1:
14:56<hays>Peng: do you think its ok if i set CPUQuota nice and low like 25% ?
14:56<schlimig>I've tried this even with no firewall at all, still no dice - same issues. I can SSH/ping freely between the nodes, so connectivity seems to be fine.
14:56<hays>i really don't want to cause problems, just testing something
14:57<schlimig>I've sanitised the private IP addresses but I can confirm they're all correctly set.
14:58<millisa>just to be sure - the nodes are in the same dc?
14:59<millisa>binding on 33060 intentional?
14:59<millisa>line 107 in that pastebin: "2021-02-09T18:53:59.334395Z 0 [System] [MY-011323] [Server] X Plugin ready for connections. Socket: '/var/run/mysqld/mysqlx.sock' bind-address: '::' port: 33060"
15:00<schlimig>Nothing I set, that's how it comes from the fresh Galera install and I haven't altered the mysql port or anything
15:03<schlimig>With the exception of the following and what the guide I linked to shows, the only configuration aside from firewall I've done is this: added to /etc/mysql/mysql.conf.d/mysqld.cnf
15:03<Peng>You know that private IP addresses are accessible to other Linode customers in the same data center, right? You can't run stuff without restrictions.
15:04<schlimig>The only time I tried without firewall was purely just to see if the firewall was causing the problem - it was not
