06:30<@pwoods>Hey elvan
06:31<elvan>hey
06:31<@pwoods>I saw your earlier message regarding "Set the Hostname" - it's not a requirement, though that can cause issues down the road depending what you're looking to do.
06:32<@pwoods>I spin up Linodes basically daily as part of testing things for customers, I rarely ever set the hostname in those cases, but I'm also going to be deleting them within the next week or so.
06:33<elvan>so at that time i dont have to do it ?
06:34<elvan>in which situation do i have to set a host name?
06:34<@pwoods>What are you setting up the LInode to do?
06:34<elvan>i will be just using my linode for my website
06:34<@pwoods>Some services rely on that being set, some don't.
06:34<@pwoods>I would recommend setting that, then.
06:35<elvan>i mean for my website's hosting i will be using it
06:35<elvan>hmm
06:35<@pwoods>I believe LetsEncrypt requires it if you're using certbot for a self-signed SSL cert
06:35<elvan>i bougt ssl from Namecheap
06:36<@pwoods>Then I would look into their requirements
06:36<elvan>so do you think that should i also get a LetsEncrypt ?
06:37<grawity>certbot doesn't care about the system hostname
06:37<elvan>hmm nice thank you for your help
06:38<elvan>one more queastion for my website the SSL from Namecheap is not enough? İ mean should i also get LetsEncrypt?
06:39<Xion>You only need one SSL provider
06:40<elvan>hmm thank you, u re so kind

06:46<Robdgreat>elvan: the advantage of LetsEncrypt is that it's free. But you've already bought one so you're set
06:47<elvan><Robdgreat> Thank you
06:50<elvan>and you are answering my questions patienly since yesterday. i really appreciate it.
06:52<Robdgreat>you're welcome

13:24<elvan>https://www.linode.com/docs/guides/getting-started/ in this guide there is a title like "Update Your System’s hosts File". I want to ask "what is system?" Does it imply my pc or my linode?
13:24<Peng>your Linode
13:24<nuevu>"System" is a pretty generic term and _can_ mean both, depending on the context.
13:24<Peng>True. In this context it's your Linode. :D
13:25<nuevu>But, as Peng said, in the context of the Linode guides, it's almost always going to be your Linode.
13:25<elvan>The hosts file creates static associations between IP addresses and hostnames or domains which the system prioritizes before DNS for name resolution. Open this file in a text editor and add a line for your Linode’s public IP address.
13:25<elvan>in this contex
13:25<elvan>hmm i got it
