00:00<hadees>is that normal?

00:07<tmk>chutt: you do any work on the osd yet?

00:22<Captain_Murdoch>Chutt, just saw your message about the mutex in autoexpire. I don't think it's necessary. I think it's left over from when I copied scheduler.cpp to get a baseline class created for autoexpire. I can delete it unless you already have.

00:39<max|home>Chutt: are you around?

01:03<Chutt>tmk, still here?
01:03<hadees>hey Chutt: is some jitter still normal when pictures on the screen move fast?
01:04<Chutt>it really depends on how busy your machine is
01:04<Chutt>if it can't wake up in time to display the frame, you'll get jitter
01:05<hadees>actully it is pretty fast and nothing else happening on it
01:05<hadees>mabey it is my ssh connections to it...
01:05<Chutt>right, but that doesn't really mean much to the scheduler
01:05<Chutt>it's a tricky issue =)
01:06-!-qDot [] has joined #mythtv
01:07<Chutt>tmk, anyway, if you see this, i can't seem to use IVTVFB_IOCTL_GET_FRAME_BUFFER
01:07<Chutt>tmk, 'error: invalid application of `sizeof' to an incomplete type', on the ioctl line
01:07<term>Chutt: working on pvr350, neat.. will that work for the pvr250? :)
01:07<Chutt>it won't
01:07<term>why not? :)
01:07<term>er :(
01:08<Chutt>don't think it's possible to get at the decoded mpeg data
01:08<term>but the windows driver can..?
01:08<Chutt>it can't
01:08<term>I thought it could
01:08<Chutt>only the very early version of the -250 has a decoder on the chip, anyway
01:09<Chutt>and it's not hooked up to anything
01:09<term>I didn't know that :(
01:09<Chutt>it's not advertised as having one :p
01:09<term>I thought it may have had one.
01:31<tmk>chutt: hmm i think i know what that problem is
01:31<tmk>lemem check
01:32<tmk>chutt: did you get the latest cvs?
01:32<Chutt>i did update, yes
01:32<tmk>not sure then
01:32<Chutt>updated again when i saw that error
01:32<tmk>it may not like the _IOR(blahblah) definition
01:32<tmk>gotta run tho
01:32<Chutt>i'd send you a patch, but it'd take forever to compile for you :p
01:33<tmk>bb in like 2 or 3 hrs
01:33<Chutt>tmk, the other stuff seems to work
01:33<Chutt>or whatnot
01:33-!-tmk is now known as tmk\out
01:36<Chutt>tmk, typos in the _IOR definitions
01:37<Chutt>should be sizeof(struct ivtvfb_ioctl_get_frame_buffer))
01:37<Chutt>but it's sizeof(struct ivtv_ioctl_get_frame_buffer))

02:46<term>more proof that the electronics industry fears the tivos and mythtv boxes of the world
02:46<term>I love the quote from Powell
02:47<term>it's not the cost of HDTVs that keep me from buying them, or that there's maybe 5 actual HDTV channels on "HDTV Digital Cable", it's that I have to get a cheap set-top box too!
02:50<robbie>most suprising of all, this decision has been made in the US of A in the year 2003
02:53<robbie>how long do posts to the mailing list usualy take to arrive ?
02:55<Chutt>minute or two.
02:55<Chutt>lotta people on the list.
03:00<robbie>Chutt: anyone working on a module for archiving stuff, i.e. burning music playlists and recordings ?
03:00<robbie>ooh, who ?

12:02<mdz>damn, my audio problems are back with 2.4.21
12:03<Chutt>hey, about that profile stuff
12:03<Chutt>i don't really see how it _can_ get upgraded from the old style
12:04<Chutt>it's a lot different from the user's perspective
12:07-!-tmk [] has joined #mythtv
12:08<Chutt>tmk, 'morning
12:08<mdz>I guess
12:08<mdz>it could at least migrate the default profiles
12:08<Chutt>i want to pre-set all of them
12:10<tmk>chutt, hola
12:11<tmk>did you see my note about mmap last night?
12:11<Chutt>you already are doing that
12:11<Chutt>that's how the fb stuff works
12:11<tmk>there's no 'mmap' in the fb driver
12:11<tmk>i searched for it
12:11<tmk>it iomaps
12:11<tmk>but that's not the same :)
12:11<Chutt>i believe that's handled by the generic layer.
12:12<tmk>oh hrm
12:12<Chutt>i don't know if i have the proper address
12:12<Chutt>or length
12:12<Chutt>or anything
12:12<tmk>well it has a lot of debugging in the driver
12:12<Chutt>since GET_FRAME_BUFFER and the GET_OSD stuff return two entirely different addresses
12:12<Chutt>and lengths
12:13* tmk checks which is which
12:13<Chutt>yeah, i've got no clue what's going on in there.
12:13<Chutt>or how to get at the memory
12:13<Chutt>you get to fix things :p
12:13<Chutt>with that current code
12:14<Chutt>the top 1/4 of the screen should be opaque white, i believe.
12:14<Chutt>(the memset, and the loops right after at the end of Reopen)
12:14<tmk>what's get_osd
12:15<Chutt>i don't know
12:15<Chutt>working on struct ivtv_osd_coords
12:15<Chutt>i couldn't get anything going with GET_FRAME_BUFFER
12:15<Chutt>and i tried using the normal linux fb stuff as well
12:15<Chutt>nothing worked.
12:16<tmk>get_Active_buffer is pci_memory space
12:16<tmk>err wait, normal fb didn't work?
12:16<tmk>like you couldn't run X on it?
12:17<Chutt>i didn't try running x on it.
12:17<tmk>oh ok
12:17<tmk>well i'll give it a go
12:17<Chutt>all i tried to do was draw on the framebuffer.
12:17<Chutt>yeah, you get to fix it, i'm done with that code :p
12:17<tmk>i got my 'prize' already bw
12:18<tmk>just the mobo :/
12:18<Chutt>i told you that's all it was :p
12:18* tmk was hoping
12:18<tmk>you know what i find strange
12:18<tmk>almost every motherboard supports IR these days
12:18<tmk>but you can't find the part to plug in that actual does the xmit/receive
12:20<Chutt>anyway, if you can fix it so that 'pixels' is a 720x480x4 buffer that i can write to and stuff shows up once i write to it
12:20<Chutt>that'd be excellent.
12:22<tmk>that was the idear
12:22<tmk>i'm pretty sure it's just a memmap
12:22<Chutt>and figure out why i can't ever remove the ivtv-fb driver :p
12:23<tmk>does it say module in use or smth?
12:23<Chutt>i think because it took over the consoles
12:23-!-FryGuy [] has joined #mythtv
12:23* tmk has to wait on mythtv compiling
12:24<Chutt>i no longer have any consoles running on the vt's

12:24<Chutt>don't know how to disable that
12:24<Chutt>or whatnot
12:24<Chutt>anyway, back later

14:46<thor_>hmmmm "could not find codec parameters" on a fresh build this is odd
14:50-!-jkolb [] has joined #mythtv
14:51<_rkulagow>thor: getting the same. just finished a make distclean; make, brb.
14:52<thor_>I just did it on a new machine and HD ...
14:52<thor_>I'm poking in the code now, but this is stuff I know nothing about
14:53<_rkulagow>nope, still exits.
14:54<_rkulagow>chutt: is there a missing message to -commit? i don't see anything that mentions codecs / profiles, although i do appear to have a "transcode-archival" entry in there that i don't remember adding manually.
14:54<_rkulagow>anyway, lunchtime. bbl.
14:58<kja>thor, think i saw something like that with an improper build of libavcodec, this might offcourse be related to something else..
14:58<Chutt>i expect a patch in my inbox when i get home late tonight :p
14:58<thor_>oh dear god
14:59<Chutt>i don't know what's wrong
14:59<Chutt>works fine here
14:59<thor_>very odd
14:59<Chutt>anyway, i'm outta here
14:59<thor_>I'll keep looking ... like that's gonna help =)
15:02<Chutt>oh, it's almost certainly related to my 'small optimizations abound' commit
15:02<Chutt>if that helps any

15:55<_rkulagow>thor: i've got a master / slave and i get the same profile codec thing. i've got master backend override on, and i'm also NFS mounting the store directory on the frontend because it's also a slave backend. i get the segfaults when trying to look at a pre-recorded file.
15:56<thor_>rkulagow ... lots of wierdness going on ... I'm trying to isolate what's causing it ....
16:01<dja_>Just in case this helps -- it worked fine with a cvs checkout on Friday at noon, but the next set of commits seems to break it

16:06<thor_>yeah, it's definitely something with the "Small optimizations abound." commit.
16:06<thor_>would help if I had the slightest clue what I was doing =)
16:07<sfr>thor_: maybe you know that: Chutt mentioned (on irc iirc) he changed some mutex->locks to s/t like waitConditionals.
16:08<thor_>sfr, yup ... I'm just working backwards from the error message (and looking at the diffs) to figure out where things have changed
