08:38--- <<-- WhizNDR- [~nrotschaf@] has quit (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))
09:12rben anyone around?
09:12doc_ yea :(
09:12rben Apparently there is something wrong with mysql which is causeing mythtv to stop working
09:13rben If I try to start it using /etc/init.d/mysql start, I get an error: Can't Connect to local MySQL server through socket /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock
09:13--- ---> Narkov [] has joined #mythtv
09:14rben can't figure out what the problem is
09:14--- <<-- AridWrk [] has quit (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))
09:15doc_ you'd have to look at the script and see what it does.. maybe do the commands manually 1 by 1
09:15rben I've been looking at them, what is puzzling is that I didn't change anything
09:16rben The only thing that has changed is that we moves some lan cables around, but the machine is on the network, I can log in with ssh
09:16rben I've rebooted 3 times, no change
09:17rben huh, apparently mysqld.sock doesn't exist
09:18doc_ sorry i cant help.. I run a different distro than you but mine works
09:19rben can you check to see where your mysqld.sock file is?
09:19doc_ ok, but understand I run mysql on a dedicated server..
09:20rben I know, I just want to find out what kind of stuff is in that file
09:20doc_ its probably not a file, but rather a pipe
09:21rben any idea where I can find out more about it?
09:21doc_ srwxrwxrwx 1 mysql mysql 0 May 8 11:27 mysql.sock=
09:21doc_ its not a regular file
09:22doc_ it should be created when mysql starts
09:22doc_ your mysql doesnt appear to be starting
09:22doc_ so the error message you have is misleading
09:22doc_ the existance of the file is probably irrelevant to why your server wont start
09:22rben well the error log has the following
09:22doc_ you should check the log file
09:22rben Cannot initialize InnoDB as 'innodb_data_file_path' is not set.
09:22rben If you do not want to use transactional InnoDB tables, add a line
09:22rben skip-innodb
09:22rben to the [mysqld] section of init parameters in your my.cnf
09:22rben or my.ini. If you want to use InnoDB tables, add to the [mysqld]
09:22rben section, for example,
09:22rben innodb_data_file_path = ibdata1:10M:autoextend
09:22rben But to get good performance you should adjust for your hardware
09:22rben the InnoDB startup options listed in section 2 at
09:22rben /usr/libexec/mysqld: ready for connections
09:23doc_ what distro are you using ?
09:23rben KnoppMyth
09:23rben It's based on Debian
09:23doc_ yeah.
09:23doc_ odd..
09:24rben Everything worked up till sometime yesterday
09:24doc_ ps axw shows it running ?
09:25rben nope, not running
09:25doc_ might have to strace it to see why its failing
09:25rben what the hell would cause it to stop working suddenly?
09:26--- <<-- mecraw__ [] has quit ("Trillian (")
09:27rben gonna try upgrading mysql

11:27riksta Chutt, any chance of working on a parse for channels.conf from dvb apps 'scan' outputs for DVB cards, so that we dont have to enter all our channels parameters cause there are SOOO many
11:27riksta s/parse/parser/
11:30--- <<-- _kch_ [] has quit (Remote closed the connection)
11:31Chutt i don't do any dvb stuff
11:31Chutt i don't care about dvb stuff
11:32riksta ok well, how about if i made an autoscanning thing to add all the found channels to the database, would you include it
11:33Chutt sure, if it worked.
11:33riksta well i can surely make the app, but i might need a hand integrating with the setup menu
11:43riksta ?

15:02gulliver (:#mythtv) hi all
15:02gulliver (:#mythtv) I am currently developing channels.conf-import-plugin for myth, to make the dvb-setup easier.
15:02gulliver (:#mythtv) I already have a working parser - not it comes to interacting with the user and saving the things in the database
15:03gulliver (:#mythtv) this is where I am not sure, what's the cleanest way to implement this...
15:04gulliver (:#mythtv) I looked through the channelsettings.h/cpp-files, but am not sure, if these are for real help, since IMHO the only thing, the user needs to do with this import is saying:
15:04gulliver (:#mythtv) "I (don't) want this channel" - "I'd like to give it Chan-Nr.X" and "I'd like to call it XYZ"
15:05gulliver (:#mythtv) any proposals, how I should do this in a clean way?
15:12gulliver (:#mythtv) nobody awake?
15:13kvandivo (:#mythtv) i don't know if the proper answer to that is 'yes' or 'no'
15:14gulliver (:#mythtv) ?
15:16gulliver (:#mythtv) maybe at least someone could tell me, what's the clean way to add/modify channels in the database? - I don't think doing it directly with SQL out of my module isn't the correct way?
15:30--- <<-- gulliver [] has quit (Remote closed the connection)
15:48_rkulagow chutt: i don't suppose you have any motivation to see what's actually going on with the ivtv ck patches and why they sometimes work back to back, but mostly don't? tmk's pre2 still has the firmware crash issue, so i'm stuck with two (bad) choices. ck's definately done something right with the firmware stuff, but there's still something else going on.
15:52Chutt i really don't want to mess with the driver much
15:52Chutt it's really quite stable on my machine, so...
16:12thor which driver are you using ?
16:13Chutt stock 0.1.9
16:13thor k
16:14thor I'm still using some _really_ old CVS, which is amazingly stable ... usually need to rmmod and re-insmod it on start, other than that it's good for at least a few weeks

16:30--- ---> Octane [octane@] has joined #mythtv
16:36_rkulagow that sucks. i don't have any such luck with the stock drivers and while i was hopeful about the ck stuff it only half works. blah.
16:37thor it seems less stable in live tv than recordings ... but that's just an anecdotal sensation
16:39_rkulagow i don't watch live tv, so that's not an issue for me.
16:39kvandivo thor: i have that same sensation
16:39_rkulagow just for grins i scheduled two recordings for the current timeslot and restarted the backend
16:41_rkulagow the first restart gave me two "Changing from None to RecordingOnly". Let it run a few seconds, restarted. On the second restart one of the jobs didn't kick off. let it run a minute or so, restarted. both started ok.
16:41_rkulagow sigh.
16:42thor both started for the 3rd time ?
16:44_rkulagow on the third start, yes, they both kicked off. but that's just one case: the simultaneous start during the current time slot. the other case is where i'm not purposefully trying to break crap and just have programs scheduled back to back. most of the time, the second program won't actually start.
16:45thor ah
16:46--- <<-- Drikus_ [] has quit ("toedeledoki")
16:46_rkulagow i've been manually adding preroll times so that there's a minute or so seperation between programs and that's been working, but is obviously not the correct solution.
16:46thor heh ... well, whenever one of my PVR's does something a bit odd I just thank god tmk has gotten as far as he has and sort of cross my fingers and assume it'll keep getting better :-)
