04:18GeckoFiend Octane you still around?
04:19GeckoFiend octane: take a look at at Ido a lot of those jump points and setup screens you're lookign for
04:25Octane GeckoFiend: thanks. I had a look at them earlier but I'm struggling to understand how they work. does JUMP have to refer to already made buttons?
04:29GeckoFiend JUMP refers to Jump points. You can get a list of them by looking at the keyboard bindings.
04:29GeckoFiend Though I just discovered I left one of them out that's needed for menus. The MythMusic scan music. Adding it now.
04:30Octane yah you left one out for scan for games too
04:33--- <<-- FryGuy [] has quit (Read error: 54 (Connection reset by peer))
04:34GeckoFiend I thought that was available in the game setup section.
04:35Octane yah its in game_settings, perhaps it was music them, i remember one of them not working
04:36GeckoFiend Working on it now. It's blowing up on me pst scan though
04:49--- ---> DonLKSAB [~don@] has joined #mythtv
04:54DonLKSAB Hi al
04:54DonLKSAB l
04:55DonLKSAB I have a programing question.
04:55DonLKSAB If i want to do a new movie browser what do i need to know?
04:55--- <<-- Viddy [] has quit (Read error: 113 (No route to host))
04:55Octane a new movie browser?
04:55DonLKSAB Is it only to change in some templates?
04:56DonLKSAB Yeah
04:56Octane you want to change hte look of the current movie browser?
04:56DonLKSAB Yes
04:56DonLKSAB Make a more folder friendly browser
04:57DonLKSAB Like that
04:57Octane someone has recently submitted a patch for a video gallery
04:57DonLKSAB I asked for it on the maillist but i got som much shit so i will try myself :-)
04:57Octane that makes things look exactly like that
04:57DonLKSAB Ohh
04:57DonLKSAB When?
04:57Octane there is a pic there as well as the patch
04:58Octane its not even in cvs though
04:58DonLKSAB Ok
04:58Octane i have tried it out and it works great
04:58Octane GeckoFiend: do you know what would bring about the error "failed to get menu container"
04:58DonLKSAB And i got a shit load of angry dudes on me for asking :-)
04:59Octane what do you mean
04:59Octane oh on -users?
04:59DonLKSAB Yeah
04:59Octane yah well, thats why i dont make any feature requests :)
04:59Octane if you notice that thread, however, youll see that he makes a direct reference to a user request
04:59Octane it came after your post
05:02DonLKSAB HeHe
05:02DonLKSAB I will test it tonight
05:03DonLKSAB Thanks
05:03DonLKSAB No i wont :-)
05:04DonLKSAB Have to wait for my internet
05:04--- User: *** o_c is now known as o_cee
05:05GeckoFiend Octane: Not a clue. I've got to head to work I'll figure out why mdata.all_playlists->postLoad() blows up everytime i call it from a jump point but not the music menu.
05:05thor ah
05:05thor probably loading thread is not done
05:05Octane GeckoFiend: np have a good day... interesting, in Trivisuis or whatever, loading videogallery causes "menu container failed" but in any other theme it doesnt, even NewBlue

06:27o_cee "# no client is connected to the server" <-- that's silly when you have the front/back on the same machine
06:29stoffel hm? your backend shuts down while watching tv?
06:33o_cee yeah but i want it to shutdown when the frontend is inactive
06:34stoffel maybe that's already fixed by choenig?
06:34o_cee would be nice
06:34o_cee not useful to me now since i run on one machine
06:35choenig o_cee: my setup only allows to shutdown, when you quit the frontend, I don't like machines that shutdown when they think they should
06:36choenig why don't you simply quit the FE, when you allow it to shutdown?
06:36o_cee choenig: but wouldn't it be possible to have the frontend timeout?
06:36o_cee just another thing to learn the girlfriend
06:36choenig btw, I'm running a FEhost = BEhost setup, too
06:36o_cee plus she'd need to learn to restart it if she decided to use it again anyway
06:37o_cee hmm, 2004-05-28 12:36:59 10 secs left to system shutdown! then nothing.. wth
06:37choenig I use a key (the powerbutton) on my remote to start it, when its needed.
06:37o_cee yeah guess i could do that too
06:37o_cee hmm, yeah i think i will
06:38choenig it would be possible to have a timeout, but I think thats much harder to implement, then to tell your girlfriend, she should handle it like a tv
06:38choenig ;)
06:38o_cee heheh, i have a power off system and a tv-power on, so it would be possible.. hmm, yeah :)
06:38o_cee but why isn't it shutting down? hmm
06:38choenig I have a script which checks if its running and if so, it pops up and asks if I want to restart mythFE
06:38choenig that script is run by the powerbutton of the remote
06:38o_cee shutdowncommand: sudo /sbin/halt -p
06:39choenig you have the sudo permission?
06:39choenig nothing in the (sys)logs?
06:39o_cee i'll check
06:39o_cee hmm
06:40choenig maybe it cannot find sudo? try /path/to/sudo ?
06:41o_cee yeah okay
06:41o_cee probably it
06:42o_cee trying again
06:45o_cee strange
06:45choenig what?
06:45o_cee nothing happens in syslog, all is fine if i run it manually
06:46choenig and what happens, if you replace that call with some 'echo blubb' stuff?
06:46o_cee lemme try that
06:48o_cee set shutdown to echo blubb and nothing.. eeehuhm
06:50choenig this is really strange
06:51stoffel :( mainboard is currently not supported
06:51o_cee yeah it is..
06:51o_cee stoffel: mine wasn't either, just use 'guess', if it doesn't work, mail the author, he was very helpful
06:51stoffel yeah, but it's a ~3 years old one, asus a7v
06:52o_cee stoffel: if it supports wakeup, there shouldn't be any problem
06:52choenig stoffel: I'd try the guess option
06:52stoffel yes, yes ;)
06:53o_cee my mobo was a bit special, but he figured it out
06:53o_cee choenig: got anything else i could try?
06:53choenig as my mobo really is not supported, since it handles that data like crap, I use my 24/7 running router as wakeup thingy
06:53choenig o_cee: Mh.
06:54choenig ocee: so you restarted the backend, right?
06:54o_cee yep
06:55choenig I'll start my system ...
06:55o_cee hey, bbkeys could map just F12 to start mythfronedn, cool, thought it wanted a modifier as well (not good for my remote)
06:55o_cee okay
06:57o_cee any of you run blackbox?
06:57choenig I run fluxbox
06:57o_cee is it possible to remove the clock?
06:57o_cee from the taskbar?
06:57choenig puh, don't know
06:57o_cee k
06:57stoffel use fluxbox
06:57o_cee it messed up the 350 tvout framebuffer every minute ;) seemed to work with just hiding the taskbar
06:58stoffel ah, strange
06:58o_cee heh, ivtv bug most likely
06:59choenig have to check the tree, if i already submitted the blockSDWU feature ...
07:00o_cee cool, f12 now starts the frontend :) need to reprogram the remote now
07:01choenig o_cee: /join #flood
07:01choenig that is my script that restarts the back and fe if required
07:01o_cee k, thanks
07:02choenig you don't have a preshutdown check command set, do you?
07:02o_cee nope
07:03choenig ie the field ist empty ?
07:03o_cee starting setup
07:03o_cee yeah it's empty
07:04choenig and the setwakeuptime cmd?
07:04choenig what, if you put 'echo blubb' in there?
07:04o_cee /usr/bin/sudo nvram-wakeup -C /etc/nvram-wakeup.conf -s $time
07:04choenig maybe it hangs there since this is called just before the shudown
07:04o_cee yeah i'll try
07:05o_cee 30 secs
07:05choenig k
07:06o_cee that echo should appear in the backend right? nothing
07:06choenig jepp
07:06o_cee :/
07:07choenig so, again, after the last '10 secs left' you don't get anything anymore?
07:07o_cee nothing
07:08choenig so, third try... put something like 'echo blubb' or probably 'logger blubb' into the preSDWU check cmd
07:09o_cee yeah, hold on
07:10o_cee May 28 13:10:30 [logger] pre_shutdown
07:10o_cee May 28 13:10:30 [logger] wakeup
07:10o_cee May 28 13:10:30 [logger] shutdown
07:10--- <<-- kslater [] has quit ("using sirc version 2.211+KSIRC/1.2.4")
07:11o_cee removed pre_shutdown again
07:11o_cee nope nothing......
07:12choenig so without preSDWU you get nothing?
07:12choenig Mh.
07:12o_cee exactly
07:13choenig and you're running current cvs? or any release?
07:13o_cee cvs as of, uhm, dunno, a couple of days
07:13o_cee got some local changes so i haven't updated
07:13choenig oh, wait
07:14choenig okey
07:14o_cee okey?
07:15choenig sorry, its a bug in the code. somebody sent me a patch about 100 years ago ...
07:15o_cee k, cool :)
07:15choenig that was when I redid the codebase and included his patch, but I did not submit it yet (as you know)
07:15o_cee okay, great :)
07:16choenig so, tell me, what do you want? aquick fix or my new stuff to test?
07:16choenig the quick fix is a oneliner
07:16o_cee doesn't really matter
07:16choenig I'd like you to test my new code, then I could submit it
07:16o_cee sure
07:16choenig ok :)
07:16o_cee what's new?
07:17stoffel except the modified help texts ;)
07:17o_cee hmm, what key do you use to shutdown the frontend?
07:17o_cee hehe ;)
07:17o_cee i can't send like ctrl+esc from my remote
07:17choenig it includes the prime blocker, but basicly its only a rewrite. I moved stuff into a new class, away from scheduler to not bloat it more and more
07:17choenig stoffel: the helptexts are your domain, feel free to submit patches ;)
07:17o_cee so now you can have myth block primes? uhm :)
07:18stoffel prime blocker?
07:18choenig yes
07:18o_cee rkulagow said he'd set up some guidelines on the helptexts
07:18choenig stoffel: you can tell him, that it should not shutdown during defined primetims (like in between 8pm and 10pm
07:18choenig )
07:18o_cee him? you mean her right
07:19choenig okay, her
07:19stoffel choenig: ah, cool
07:19o_cee choenig: does it also make possible to 'always start at 1800'?
07:19o_cee damn i'm hungry
07:19choenig no, you really need such a feature?
07:19o_cee choenig: if i'd change ESC as shutdown in myth (that obviously doesn't work anyway) to something else (manually) you know if that'd work?
07:20o_cee choenig: well, i guess it starts quick enough, but it could be nice
07:20o_cee so it's always on when you're most likely to watch
07:20choenig Mh, i use esc to quit my machine
07:20o_cee what do you navigate menus with then?
07:21o_cee guess that setting should be moved to the other keybindings
07:21choenig no, I mean, i use esc to quit the FE, sorry
07:21o_cee you use esc to move back in menus and such as well, right?
07:21o_cee guess you could remap that
07:21choenig right
07:21choenig begin
07:21choenig prog = irexec
07:21choenig button = Power
07:21choenig repeat = 2
07:21choenig config = restartMythtv
07:21choenig end
07:22o_cee k.. confusing if you'd grab the keyboard tho :)
07:22choenig and this is my .lirc part for the remote restart
07:22o_cee don't use lirc
07:22--- ---> holger_ [] has joined #mythtv
07:22choenig ah, ok
07:22o_cee got an ir-keyboard that i emulate on my remote
07:22choenig hehe
07:22o_cee works really good :)
07:24choenig o_cee: email?
07:26DonLKSAB Ohh .se :-)
07:26o_cee yepp
07:26choenig o_cee: mail is on its way
07:26DonLKSAB Got any graber? :-)
07:27DonLKSAB Well time to go home
07:27DonLKSAB Cya on tuesday
07:27--- <<-- DonLKSAB [~don@] has quit ()
07:28o_cee choenig: i just did echo $time on shutdown now
07:28o_cee i got 1085752010
07:28o_cee Fri, 28 May 2004 13:46:50 GMT
07:28o_cee --- print list start ---
07:28o_cee Title - Subtitle Chan ChID Day Start End S C I T N Pri

07:28o_cee uuh?
07:29choenig so ther is smth wrong with timezones?
07:29o_cee hm
07:30o_cee i don't have any timezones :)
07:30choenig it starts 2h too eraly, right?
07:30o_cee seems so
07:30o_cee got 180s at prestart.. that's S right, not M??
07:30o_cee seconds, not minutes.. but that'd be 3hrs
07:31choenig yes, thats secs
07:31o_cee mythtv@dragon mythtv $ date
07:31o_cee Fri May 28 13:32:24 CEST 2004
07:33o_cee but wait for rec is 20 mintues.. so it shouldn't even start shutdown if it thinkgs it's.. blarh, dunno
07:33o_cee hold on
07:33choenig I'm totaly confused now :\
07:33o_cee yeah hold on, checking what time nvram uses
07:34o_cee nvram-wakeup: RTC is running in UTC/GMT!
07:35o_cee but that time is comming from myth anyway.. must be your calculation that doesn't respect my timezone?
07:35choenig there is no calculation
07:35choenig search for "// set the wakeuptime if needed"
07:35choenig that is the part where things happen
07:37choenig Mh, your GMT+2 right now, right?
07:37o_cee seems like that yeah
07:38choenig and the recording should start at 15:xx not at 13:xx, right?
07:38o_cee yeah
07:39--- <<-- bAST [] has quit ("Leaving")
07:39choenig and your preroll is not 120min? ;)
07:40o_cee nope :)
07:40stoffel stupid question: how to create my own /etc/nvram-wakeup.conf if i want to use the values for the biostar m6vcg. right now i can use --iwname bio_m6vcg on the commandline
07:41o_cee choenig, here's a nice one for you..
07:41o_cee 2004-05-28 13:41:37 10 secs left to system shutdown!
07:41o_cee preSD
07:41o_cee 15:46 2004-05-28
07:41o_cee THAT's correct
07:41o_cee time_t is not
07:41o_cee stoffel: why can't you just run it with --iwname?
07:41choenig ok, then its an qt issue
07:41stoffel o_cee: b/c i'm lazy ;)
07:42o_cee stoffel: you need to do -C configfile else :)
07:42o_cee choenig: ah crap
07:42choenig Convenience function that sets the date and time to local time based on the given UTC time.
07:42choenig hahaha
07:42choenig there it is
07:42o_cee come ooon, how stupid can they be
07:42o_cee can't you pass timezone to it or soemthing?
07:42choenig okay, but you can also ... right
07:43o_cee and you should be able to get it pretty easy right? great :) two bugs in one afternoon, hehhe
07:43o_cee not even two yet
07:43choenig hehe
07:43o_cee not even afternoon :)
07:44choenig oh, damn, i looked at setTime_t() which supports timezones, toTime_t() does not :(
07:44o_cee strange
07:45o_cee On systems that do not support timezones, this function will behave as if local time were UTC.
07:45o_cee ?
07:45choenig don't know what that means
07:46o_cee supports timezones.. hmm
07:47choenig isaac is using toTime_t(), too, in filldata.cpp ;)
07:48choenig so, o_cee, cant you tell nvram that this time is UTC?
07:48o_cee maybe..
07:49--- <<-- holger_ [] has quit ("Client exiting")
07:49choenig are time_t's defined as to always be UTC?
07:50o_cee don't know
07:50o_cee nvra-wakup should handle it ok if that was the case
07:51stoffel 'the current epoch starts on Jan 1, 1970 at 00:00:00 GMT)' so i'd say yes
07:51choenig thats what I think, but qt normaly would have an option for that, if that was not the case, as qt is fairly nice ;)
07:51o_cee so the time first needs to be set to UTC before going to time_t?
07:52stoffel so qt returns time_t in local time?
07:52choenig stoffel: no, it returns it as UTC
07:52o_cee but takes it from local timezone
07:52o_cee and thinks it's utc
07:52o_cee On systems that do not support timezones, this function will behave as if local time were UTC.
07:53o_cee but i've got timezones setup as it should
07:53choenig yeah, and all despite nvram-wakeup acts like expected ;)
07:53o_cee we're back to blaming qt :)
07:54stoffel sorry, i didn't really follow
07:54o_cee i thinks my time is UTC when converting
07:54choenig are you willing to talk to the nvram guy about that? ask him, if that is intended and ask him for his oppinion on that ?
07:54o_cee yeah he can't get much more annoyed with me i think :)
07:55choenig hehe
07:55o_cee Latest version installed: 3.3.2
07:55o_cee of QT
07:55choenig you think you annoy him?
07:55o_cee nah
07:55o_cee but i'd rather annoy some qt guy ;)
07:55choenig I think, that qt handles it as it should be, and i think that time_t is alsways considered to be in UTC
07:55choenig Mh
07:57stoffel so, after setting the wakeup time i just poweroff as usual?
07:57choenig stoffel: yapp

07:59o_cee as you see it's correct
08:00choenig yes, i expected that.
08:00choenig so the only thing that goes wrong here is, that nvram wakeup doesnt interpret the time_t as UTC but as local timezone, which seems to be wrong
08:01o_cee it's qt that does it wrong
08:01choenig why?
08:01o_cee lemme show you, hold on, some backend restarts
08:01choenig oh, your right ;)

08:02o_cee preSD
08:02o_cee 15:46 2004-05-28
08:02choenig no, qt does it right:
08:02o_cee and soon with time_t
08:02choenig if you use time_t it will give you 13:xx since 13:xx UTC = 15:xxGMT+2
08:03o_cee hmm
08:03o_cee 1085752010
08:03o_cee yeah
08:03o_cee wtf
08:03o_cee so i get that in utc, gimme sec
08:03o_cee hmm, okay
08:03choenig so nvram-wu shut add the two hours to it to get the actual time (all based on the assumption, that a time_t is always UTC)
08:03o_cee Enabling (0xAC) WakeUp-on-RTC in nvram.

08:46o_cee one thing i noticed.. had the frontend running, but it didn't 'connect' to the backend until i did something and got the 'there's no backend' message..
08:47o_cee guess it's no big deal if you don't play with it like i did but use it more proper ;) (shutdown stuff hehe)
08:48choenig if u use sdwu it should connect to the BE right after the start, I think
08:48o_cee yeah but i started the backend after the fe
08:48choenig ah
08:48o_cee but that's nothing that should happen i guess
08:48choenig does this need a change?
08:49choenig yeah
08:49o_cee just emerged xdialog, trying your script now
08:50choenig :-)
08:50o_cee removed the part wiht mythbackend from it.. so when you close it down, it waits for you to say yes there? and you just restart the frontend with ok? sure that'll work, just need to do some thinking on how to do the remote programming :)
08:50choenig right
08:51o_cee i think i'll just make it check if it's running or notm and skip the dialog
08:51choenig but I have the BE also started (when its not running!) since I often kill both due to coding or updates
08:51o_cee yeah okay
08:51choenig the dialog is just to restart it, if its running
08:52choenig thats very helpful if the FE hangs
08:52o_cee oh that too..
08:52o_cee need to figure something out :)
08:52choenig if its not running the script simply starts the FE (same with the BE)

17:23o_cee GeckoFiend: you want a real cool thing to add to your osd? i won't have time/energy to make osd theme, so you could as well do it

19:53lancealtar Before upgrading to 0.15 and switching to DataDirect, everything was working fine. Except recently when I no longer could download updates for my guide via XMLTV. I upgraded to 0.15 and followed the instructions on the webpage pertaining to how to migrate from xmltv to datadirect. Now I cannot change channels and the guide is not showing up correctly. Any suggestions?

20:42mikegrb that is really what you were talking about
20:42mikegrb ;)
20:42o_cee yepp :)
20:42mikegrb I met my wife at a 24hr auto parts place on "the strip"
20:43o_cee cars like those
20:43o_cee heh :)
20:43o_cee the strup? las vegas?
20:43o_cee whops
20:43mikegrb nah
20:43mikegrb in oklahoma city
20:43o_cee oh :)
20:43mikegrb the street where all the people go to race and stuff
20:43mikegrb have you seen fast and the furious?
20:43o_cee yep
20:44mikegrb at the beginning
20:44mikegrb when they are in the alley with all the pimped out cars
20:44mikegrb that is what the street is like
20:45o_cee don't know if i think of the first or second mvie
20:45Ashlar bah.. wimpy cars.. now this.. is an RC :)
20:45o_cee heh, cool :)
20:45o_cee Ashlar: yeah i've seen those are much more popular in the stattes
20:45o_cee but calling them wimpy cars..
20:45Ashlar heh, just trying to get a rise out of ya ;)
20:46o_cee at 2:46? c'mon :)
20:46Ashlar hehe
20:46o_cee i bought a new controller today actually :) shiny and new
20:46o_cee not as nice as yours ;)
20:47Ashlar that was a christmas present from the wife.. and I'm afraid I'll drop it so I rarely use it
20:47mikegrb I got my hdtv receiver today
20:47mikegrb very nice
20:47mikegrb two firewire ports
20:47mikegrb dvi
20:47mikegrb and component
20:47o_cee Ashlar: yeah, i know what it's like.. but i've decided to put that aside and just buy new stuff when i break it
20:47o_cee mikegrb: damn
20:47mikegrb yes
20:47mikegrb and the picture is so pretty
20:48o_cee heh
20:48mikegrb watching some imax movies earlier
20:48mikegrb watching baseball even though I'm not interested in sports
20:48mikegrb crazy stuff
20:49o_cee if i wouldn't be a poor student i'd go with digital tv as well ;)
20:49o_cee but i'll wait, and dvb support will be better too
20:49mikegrb yup
20:50mikegrb I want to try out video on demand stuff
20:50mikegrb we had it before
20:51mikegrb they are promoting it as having more free stuff
20:51mikegrb like recordings of tv shows and stuff
20:51mikegrb like a pvr with the backend at the cable company
20:51o_cee hheheh
20:51o_cee mikegrb: yeah that's nice
20:51mikegrb but it isn't working, and I don't want to call them because right now we get all the movie channels ;)
20:51o_cee but myth is better
20:52o_cee whops :)
20:52mikegrb yes
20:52mikegrb heh
20:52o_cee probably free like first week or so?
20:52mikegrb I think the installer may have done it on purpose
20:52o_cee Ashlar: look at that pic, that's what they should look like
20:52mikegrb the box hasn't been programmed to tell it which channels to get
20:52o_cee mikegrb: yeah, they use to do that i think.. give you like 14 days to get you hooked ;)
20:52mikegrb heh
20:53mikegrb well the installer was nice
20:53Ashlar lol, yup
20:53mikegrb he did more then he had to
20:53o_cee ooohkay
20:53mikegrb I have a little tv across the living room on the computer desk so you don't have to turn around
20:53o_cee that didn't sound right either.
20:54mikegrb he hooked it up to a splitter off the composite output on the hdtv receiver
20:54mikegrb so I can still see the picture
20:54o_cee cool
20:54mikegrb did some other stuff too
20:54mikegrb said one of the signals was low in the cable for the cable modem
20:55mikegrb cut a new cable and ran it for it
20:57o_cee maybe he thought you where cute :) euhm
20:58Chutt i got a mailing from comcast today complaining that my cablebox isn't responding to them
20:58mikegrb heh
20:58mikegrb chutt has been stealing pay per view
20:58Chutt they sent a little jumper coax cable with it, too
20:58Chutt it's probably the amp i added, but it's bidirectional, so i dunno
20:59mikegrb ahh
20:59Chutt need an amp w/ an 8-way splitter :(
20:59o_cee Chutt: any particular reason 'exit mythfrontend' havnen't been moved from the settings to the new keybindings?
20:59mikegrb it is "bidirectional"
20:59o_cee 8-way splitter? whoaw hehe
20:59Chutt 4 drops downstairs, 4 up
21:00o_cee using em all? or just outlets?
21:00Chutt heh, naw, just outlets
21:00o_cee ah :)
21:00Chutt only using 4 of em, and one's the mythtv dev box
21:01Chutt ah well, back to putting up insulation
21:01o_cee keybinding?
21:01o_cee nevermind then :)
21:03mikegrb heh
21:03Ashlar o_cee: only problem with my t-maxx is that it's so heavy with the roll cage and alum bumpers that I have to be REALLY careful.. I've almost broke my own ankle when running it by me.. damned thing has a 2 speed tranny and does 45 MPH
21:04o_cee 45 * 1.6 = 72.. that's pretty fast.. when you're on a real track you can never reach such speeds (yeah maybe a couple of times) because of all the twisting and turning
21:04o_cee running on a real track is so much more fun
21:05Ashlar definitely.. I have a big pasture behind me and I can get it up to speed if I'm careful.. we have a couple of tracks close by
21:09o_cee maybe time to sleep, 3am.. yeahpp, i think so.. g'night all
21:09Ashlar night man
