13:54<gbee>where is ccache kept on various distros?
13:55<xris>depends on the distro
13:55-!-jgarvey [] has joined #mythtv
13:55<xris>gbee: you see my note about the 100% cpu bug returned?
13:55<gbee>yeah, that's why I'm asking
13:55<gbee>xris: I did :(
13:56<gbee> For some stupid reason a Mandriva packager has removed a symlink from /usr/bin so ccache is no longer in PATH - I need to argue that it be reinstated so I'm wondering where it's kept on other distros
13:56<xris>that's from fedora
13:56<xris>checking centOS now
13:57<xris>basically the same in centOS , but without all of the symlinks in /usr/lib64/ccache/
14:01<GreyFoxx>gbee: /usr/bin in slackware
14:02<dekar1>Is the aspect ratio quesswork in important? (just browsing changes and noticed that it is solved in an "inventive" way)

14:19<gbee>since the change Mandriva has been sticking it in /usr/lib64/ccache/bin/ccache which is just f'ked up
14:20-!-loops [] has quit ["Leaving"]
14:20<gbee>the reason given to justify it is spurious and amounts to "Icecream was broken and instead of fixing it we decided to break everything else which expects ccache to be in PATH"

14:28<GreyFoxx>anyone here a regular user of the opengl renderer for playback ?
14:28<xris>GreyFoxx: mp4 still segfaults for me
14:28<xris>you want a sample file?
14:29<GreyFoxx>yes please :()
14:29-!-loops [] has joined #mythtv
14:31<gbee>GreyFoxx: I've used it a lot
14:31<GreyFoxx>gbee: I and several others have a problem where the first video played is fine, but all playback after than ends up with a blank screen but audio is in the background so it's definately playing
14:32<GreyFoxx>restart mythfrontend and it's fine again for 1 playback only
14:32<GreyFoxx>and on 1 machine I can start/stop playback a few times and X crashes
14:33<gbee>haven't seen that before, is this a recent problem or has it been around for a while?
14:33<GreyFoxx>supposedly for a little while. the one machine I regularly use opengl for rendering on never showed that problem
14:34<GreyFoxx>ticfket 4526 appears to be the same one I juts put into a ticket
14:34<gbee>hmm, this is a single core machine
14:35<gbee>and I stopped using it after a while because CPU usage was a little higher than xv-blit for no real benefits except the nicer OSD
14:35<GreyFoxx>my xp2500+ works fine, my sempron 2800+ and amd64 3800+ have the problem
14:35<GreyFoxx>That's mainly why I stick to xv, but after a few people mentioned it I tried it and sure enough I can reproduce it
14:36<gbee>this is a Turion MT30 (roughly equivalent to a ~2800+ iirc)
14:38<gbee>guessing there is not correlation with the driver used?
14:40<GreyFoxx>I'm just gathering my hardware list now

14:46<GreyFoxx>gbee: Can you grep your X log for "NVIDIA GLX MODULE" ?
14:47<gbee>GreyFoxx: sure
14:47<GreyFoxx>What kind of card are you using ?
14:47<gbee>I've just reinstalled everything (best part of a day wasted) so no guarentees that it reflects the know working setup
14:48<gbee>it's a 6200
14:50<gbee>(II) NVIDIA GLX Module 100.14.19 Wed Sep 12 14:51:24 PDT 2007
14:51<gbee>I was on an earlier version before the reinstall, so that's not really usefull
14:51<GreyFoxx>well, if you can verify if it works later that could be useful
14:51<GreyFoxx>cause so far a pattern is emerging which I'm about to test :)
14:52<gbee>I'll need to downgrade the driver anyway, haven't re-installed mfe yet

15:06-!-cattelan [] has joined #mythtv
15:07<gbee>not a big problem then, the opengl render isn't built by default and carries health warnings already

15:26<skamithi>greyfoxx: watch out when using nvidia driver version 100.14.19. it produced random pink screens when using Xv renderer. had to downgrade to 100.14.09. no problem since.
15:27<Cardoe>I use 100.14.09 at home
15:28<Cardoe>GreyFoxx: UseCompositeWrapper "true" works around
15:28<laga>it wasn't that random for me, it happens almost every second time i try to use Xv
15:28<Cardoe>an issue
15:28<gbee>you would think that Nvidia could afford some regression testing
15:28<GreyFoxx>Cardoe: ahh I'll try that too
15:29<Cardoe>the UseCompositeWrapper appears to be when using OpenGL and regular 2D
15:29<GreyFoxx>Soon we are gonna need a list of "blessed" nvidia driver versions :)
15:29<Cardoe>i.e. compositing WMs have an issue with it
15:30<Cardoe>They're gonna be a new series out pretty soon
15:30<Cardoe>so we'll see if they've fixed up these issues
15:30<Cardoe>I package nvidia-drivers on Gentoo so I keep pretty close tabs on them.
15:30<Cardoe>some of their guys are pretty good.
15:31<laga>good enough to make purevideo for linux?
15:31<Cardoe>I had a nice long back and forth with one developer about issues with RWX memory sections
15:31<GreyFoxx>they need beta testers? I'd love to try that sort of thing before it comes out since there is a mad rush of myth users upgrading each time a new version comes out
15:31<GreyFoxx>and a lot more people will be trying opengl rendering soon
15:32<Cardoe>GreyFoxx: I wish... they won't even let me get my hands on any
15:32<Cardoe>the best thing I get is an e-mail from one of the devs if they remember before a release hits their site.

15:38<skamithi>bah. just tried openGL video renderer on nvidia driver 169.12 on mythtv-vid on my dev PC. applied the UseCompositeWrapper option. no luck. still gives a black screen after the first attempt. oh well.
15:40-!-onixian [] has joined #mythtv
15:40<Cardoe>xdpyinfo says what?
15:40<Cardoe>direct rendering: yes or no?
15:43<skamithi>yes direct rendering is on.
15:58<Cardoe>what card?
15:58<Cardoe>GeForce 8?
16:00<Cardoe>yeah.. I steered clear of GeForce 8 cards for MythTV
16:00<Cardoe>as far as purevideo.. I believe NVIDIA is waiting for vaapi to be complete-ish and go prime time
16:00<Cardoe>They've deprecated XvMC
16:00<Cardoe>basically, if XvMC breaks... they won't fix it and will pull it out.
16:01<GreyFoxx>Are they planning to support it under linux then? Cool
16:02<Cardoe>basically XvMC doesn't provide everything that's needed
16:02<Cardoe>and there is no API for it
16:02<Cardoe>but vaapi should hopefully provide what they need/want
16:03<Cardoe>well purevideo is basically video offloading to the gpu
16:03<Cardoe>and decompression offloading
16:03<Cardoe>which is what vaapi looks to provide
16:09<janneg>hopefully someone tells them that intel plans to enhance XvMC as short term solution
16:12<MrGandalf>GeForce 8 cards don't support XvMC.
16:12<MrGandalf>and their Xv uses the 3D engine
16:18<MrGandalf>which actually scales better than their old Xv engine
16:18<MrGandalf>and looks a lot better
16:18<MrGandalf>except you pretty much have to deinterlace even if you use an interlaced display

18:16<janneg>yeah. I finally found the cause for the double bit rate in NuppelVideoDecoder
18:26<Chutt>i wish the peanut gallery would stop deciding what milestone to set
18:26<Chutt>janneg, what's the issue?
18:26<gbee>Chutt: not possible to prevent that with this newer version of trac?
18:27<Chutt>gbee, not that i've seen
18:27<Chutt>i'll have to play with things a bit
18:27<gbee>btw, you had a thought on #4756 the other night?
18:28<janneg>we are writing incorrect pts (increasing by 2 per frame) and the rate control uses the pts to estimate the wanted size
18:28<Chutt>just that using a jumppoint like that seemed iffy
18:28<Chutt>the crash seemed to be from somehow popping off more than one item (ie, the main menu, wrongly)?
18:28<gbee>ahh, yeah I'm not entirely happy with it
18:29<janneg>not sure that changed to exhibit the bug. ratecontrol code hasn't changed in 14800
18:29<gbee>yeah I think, (but I'm not sure) that it's a race condition popscreen triggers an escape keypress which triggers a second popscreen
18:30<gbee>I had a couple of patches I wanted to try, but screwing up my system last night prevented me from testing them
18:31<gbee>I'll try them out tomorrow, but I can't repro the segfault so I can only be sure that they don't cause further problems
