20:20<stmartin>I have a major problem. When I try to mount a directory via hostfs, the guest panics shortly thereafter. mount reports "mount: special device none does not exist". Using freshly compiled 2.6.16.42, ext3 cow filesystem (Ubuntu 6.06 guest). Happens with an earlier kernel also (2.6.15...) Ideas?
20:22<DeHackEd>you are specifying -t hostfs right?
20:22<stmartin>Yes.
20:23<stmartin>mount none /mnt/vinel -t hostfs -o /vinel
20:23<stmartin>Or something like that.
20:23<DeHackEd>looks valid
20:23<DeHackEd>I'm just a user. normally mount says nothing.
20:26<stmartin>CONFIG_HOSTFS=y
20:28<stmartin>I wonder if its referring to the path on the host...
20:38[~]stmartin thinks perhaps the crash has something to do with tmpfs...

21:04[~]stmartin thinks he got it. Thinks guest kernel becomes unstable when hostfs host directory does not exist.
21:04<DeHackEd>...

21:34<stmartin>Hmmm, when I hostfs mount a directory, and the host directory is owned by the same user as the virtual machine is running as, should it not show the mounted directory as being writeable by at least root?
21:39<stmartin>Basically, I have users on my host, and I need to import their home directories from /vinel/home/ onto /mnt/home/ in the guest. The guest is running as the user ckerr, and on the host, ~ckerr is owned by ckerr, and has perms 0700. When hostfs mounted, /mnt/home/air/c/ckerr is owned by uid=15994 (which is ckerr on the host). This means that the virtual user cannot write to their own home directory. How can I fix this. There isn't a uid= mount option for
21:39<stmartin>Cancel that. It actually _does_ work, but the permissions wouldn't indicate the fact.
