08:43<Tuxbubling-#uml->>just a question
08:43<Tuxbubling-#uml->>when i do brige between my interface and tap, i can't use virtual interfaces on the interface?
08:44|-|tyler29 [~tyler@ARennes-257-1-157-102.w86-214.abo.wanadoo.fr] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
08:55<Tuxbubling-#uml->>yarh ok i see the point
09:04<Tuxbubling-#uml->>ok one other point
09:05<Tuxbubling-#uml->>is that really better on a performance side to make VM running on a "real" partition instead of a partion file?

09:50<dang-#uml->>Not in my experience.
10:04<Tuxbubling-#uml->>got around 35MB throughput on a partition file
10:06<Tuxbubling-#uml->>well not bad actually

10:39<Magotari-#uml->>Does anyone know of any irc channel dedicated to virtual machines in general?

10:51<caker-#uml->>Magotari: hey .. not off hand, no
10:52<caker-#uml->>Magotari: question for you, if you have a sec -- do any of the SELINUX config options appear for you under a recent -um tree?
10:52<Magotari-#uml->>Hmm...
10:52<Magotari-#uml->>Let me see.
10:52<Magotari-#uml->>Wait, you mean -um?
10:52<caker-#uml->>ARCH=um, yes
10:52<Magotari-#uml->>I have never used such a tree.
10:52<Magotari-#uml->>Oh.
10:52<Magotari-#uml->>*stupid me*
10:52<Magotari-#uml->>Let me see.
10:53<caker-#uml->>also, did you know you can search in menuconfig? (type /) good stuff
10:54<Magotari-#uml->>Yes, I know.
10:54<Magotari-#uml->>It appears in 23-mm1
10:54<caker-#uml->>under searching, or in the actual menuconfig?
10:54<Magotari-#uml->>I don't have anything newer, but if you want I can get it in about half an hour.
10:54<Magotari-#uml->>Actual menuconfig
10:54<caker-#uml->>huh
10:55<Magotari-#uml->>In security options, I think. Let me double check if I am doing it right.
10:55<caker-#uml->>yeah .. mine are gone -- 2.6.23 vanilla
10:56<Magotari-#uml->>Yup. No problem at all.
10:56<Magotari-#uml->>My net is slow, but if you want I can get that and try it.
10:57<caker-#uml->>Symbol: SECURITY_SELINUX [=n]
10:57<caker-#uml->> Depends on: SECURITY_NETWORK && AUDIT && NET && INET
10:57<Magotari-#uml->>I moved to a new system, and I lost all my lovely source trees. And the "squash umid dirs on panic" thing I wrote. Not like it was worth any.
10:57[~]caker #uml checks AUDIT#uml-> checks AUDIT
10:57<caker-#uml->>ok, that was it...
10:58<Magotari-#uml->>:) That solves it then.
10:59<Magotari-#uml->>I need a working, open source, powerpc emulator/vm which is able to run and install debian etch.
10:59<caker-#uml->>thanks for checking
10:59<Magotari-#uml->>Qemu and pearpc don't work with etch.
10:59<Magotari-#uml->>Welcome.
10:59<Magotari-#uml->>If you ever have any questions, just ask. I will answer to the best of my ability.
10:59<caker-#uml->>same here :)
10:59<Magotari-#uml->>Thanks a lot.
11:01<caker-#uml->>Magotari: http://sheepshaver.cebix.net/ ?
11:02<caker-#uml->>never mind ...
11:02<Magotari-#uml->>Ah yes. I saw it yesterday on google, but actually forgot to try it.
11:02<caker-#uml->>mac classic emulator
11:03<Magotari-#uml->>So it won't run etch?
11:04<caker-#uml->>doubtful -- what are you up to needing a ppc emu for etch?
11:05<Magotari-#uml->>Because I want to try UML on other architectures than x86.
11:05<Magotari-#uml->>And I don't know any small distros other than debian which actually work on ppc.
11:05<Magotari-#uml->>Ah wait.
11:05<Magotari-#uml->>There is arch.
11:05<Magotari-#uml->>Gotta try that.

11:12<Magotari-#uml->>Nope. Hangs at the exact same spot. Same with Gentoo, I hear.
11:20<caker-#uml->>which is what?
11:26<Magotari-#uml->>"returning from prom_init" or something like that. Right at the start of the boot sequence, after I choose the boot kernel.
11:27<Magotari-#uml->>Same text on the serial console.

20:04<aroscha-#uml->>hi!
20:04<aroscha-#uml->>does skas3 work now with 64 bit machines?
20:04<aroscha-#uml->>it did not half a year ago
20:21|-|tyler29 [~tyler@ARennes-257-1-158-102.w86-214.abo.wanadoo.fr] has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
20:37<Magotari-#uml->>aroscha: I don't know about the status of any skas3, but I know that under a 23 kernel the patches which are floating around don't give skas to anyone as far as I can tell.
20:37<aroscha-#uml->>hmmm...
20:37<Magotari-#uml->>Skas3 is kinda hard to get nowadays, even on x86. Unless you don't mind an older kernel.
20:39<Magotari-#uml->>The person who maintained a lot of patches for uml is inactive for over half a year now. He probably would be the one to fix that bit, but alas, no sign from him for a while.
20:39<Magotari-#uml->>If desperate: There are some patches on uml-user.
20:40<Magotari-#uml->>They don't give you full skas3 on x86, but some bits work. Enough to give some speed boost. Maybe a few %. If desperate, as I said.
20:40<Magotari-#uml->>That is on x86, no promises about 64 bits.
20:41<Magotari-#uml->>I am yet to get a virtual machine emulating that, but so far I spent a whole damn day trying with ppc.
20:41<Magotari-#uml->>I will probably know more in a day or two.
20:50<caker-#uml->>skas3 doesn't work on x86_64
