05:41<Tuxbubling-#uml->>hey there
05:42<Magotari-#uml->>Hello, Tuxbubling.
05:42<Tuxbubling-#uml->>got something weird on my host
05:42<Tuxbubling-#uml->>guest*
05:42<Magotari-#uml->>Yeah?
05:42<Magotari-#uml->>Tell me more.
05:43<Tuxbubling-#uml->>from the guest i can only reach my host
05:44<Magotari-#uml->>What is your networking setup? Tuntap?
05:44<Tuxbubling-#uml->>bridge
05:44<Magotari-#uml->>Hmm... Does the host have ip forwarding on?
05:44<Tuxbubling-#uml->>mmmh
05:48<Tuxbubling-#uml->>well now it is
05:49<Tuxbubling-#uml->>strangely it worked yesterday ... O_o
05:49<Magotari-#uml->>problems_solved++ ?
05:49<Tuxbubling-#uml->>no
05:50<Tuxbubling-#uml->>even with ip forwarding on
05:50<Magotari-#uml->>Hmm. So it still won't work? Ok, let me see...
05:52<Tuxbubling-#uml->>i added some virt interface yesterday
05:52<Tuxbubling-#uml->>and it worked like a charm
05:52<Tuxbubling-#uml->>to day i noted that ssh was fu*** long to connect
05:53<Tuxbubling-#uml->>and i see that the guest doesn't ping anything except the host :(
05:53<Magotari-#uml->>I looked at the manuals, but I cannot see anything obivous.
05:53<Tuxbubling-#uml->>me neither :(

05:55<Magotari-#uml->>Tuxbubling: What happens when you ping google? Does it say network unreachable?
05:55<Tuxbubling-#uml->>yes
05:56<Tuxbubling-#uml->>as i can't ping my gateway :/
05:56<Magotari-#uml->>jdike will be here on monday, maybe he can help. Or caker.
05:56<Magotari-#uml->>I damn suck at networking. :(
05:56<Tuxbubling-#uml->>that's damn non sense :(
05:58<Tuxbubling-#uml->>let me kill the bridge and remade it
05:58<Magotari-#uml->>I was about to suggest it myself.

06:06<Tuxbubling-#uml->>works better now
06:06<Tuxbubling-#uml->>strange...
06:07<Tuxbubling-#uml->>ew.... sounds like it's not that reliable :/
06:07<Magotari-#uml->>I find that once set up, UML will work just right. It might take a while to set it up though.
06:08<Tuxbubling-#uml->>i tought it was set tup :p
06:08<Tuxbubling-#uml->>ok let's have my funny virtual interface

07:53<Magotari-#uml->>Hello, jjkola. What brings you here?
08:06<jjkola-#uml->>debugging an uml...
08:06|-|ftumch [~James@james.1ec.aaisp.net.uk] has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
08:07<jjkola-#uml->>anybody remember the command to dump image of running process in gdb?
08:08|-|ftumch [~James@james.1ec.aaisp.net.uk] has joined #uml
08:08<caker-#uml->>Tuxbubling: bridging is 100% reliable if configured correctly (just like anything else)
08:09<jjkola-#uml->>I think I have hit again the bug which caused huge amount signals signaled and I want to debug it somewhere else than gdb so that I don't need to manually traverse through signals
08:10<Tuxbubling-#uml->>caker i agree... it just stop working without any changes...
08:11<caker-#uml->>doubtful :)
08:11<Tuxbubling-#uml->>i shut it down, and restarted it, and now working again... will see if it happens again ...
08:11<Tuxbubling-#uml->>doubtful but true ;)
08:11<caker-#uml->>something changed.
08:11<Tuxbubling-#uml->>nothing
08:11<caker-#uml->>you added an interface?
08:12<Tuxbubling-#uml->>virt ones
08:12<caker-#uml->>are you manually setting MAC addresses?
08:12<Tuxbubling-#uml->>to get another network
08:12<Tuxbubling-#uml->>not at all
08:12<jjkola-#uml->>network problems?
08:12<Tuxbubling-#uml->>i just set the virt interfaces, add shhd listening on it, and yumed some apps

08:15<Magotari-#uml->>I wish UML had eth0=simple or something like that. Qemu solves it all really nicely. It would not do if you want to put the comp on the network, but it does give you host access and beyond, all without any configuration.
08:40<jjkola-#uml->>any ideas what does this mean: http://rafb.net/p/8AwxfL43.html
08:40<jjkola-#uml->>I tried to attach gdb to running uml process but I got this error message
09:00|-|jjkola changed nick to jjkola|afk
09:08<Tuxbubling-#uml->><jjkola> sounds a little bit same kind of problem which I have been experiencing << what kind?
09:12<caker-#uml->>Tuxbubling: next time that happens, pastebin the following, please: host: brctl show; ifconfig -a; route -n and on the UML: route -n; ifconfig -a
09:13<Tuxbubling-#uml->>caker: ok noted
09:13<Tuxbubling-#uml->>from what i checked
09:13<Tuxbubling-#uml->>there were nothing special, or changed from when it worked
09:13<caker-#uml->>iptables involved anywhere? Like, maybe some cron job that runs overnight and does some funky iptables stuff?
09:14<Tuxbubling-#uml->>caker: no
09:14<caker-#uml->>or something that runs iptable rules when a new interface is added?
09:14<Tuxbubling-#uml->>no iptables
09:14<caker-#uml->>ok
09:16<Tuxbubling-#uml->>just sometin i note: tuxbubling@babelfish ~ $ arp -n

09:16<Tuxbubling-#uml->> inet addr:10.50.50.1 Bcast:10.50.50.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
09:17<Tuxbubling-#uml->>MACs are kind of different ...
09:18<caker-#uml->>Tuxbubling: you want the macs different on every single interface. That includes the host's eth devices, the host's tap devices, and the UML's ethernet device(s)
09:18<caker-#uml->>I always specify the macs everywhere, but I think UML/tuntap does The Right Thing and creates random ones that should be unique
09:18<Tuxbubling-#uml->>br0 MAC is my eth2 MAC - uml-conn0 has it's own MAC
09:18<Tuxbubling-#uml->>guest too
09:19<caker-#uml->>the bridging device inherits the eth device's mac. That one is ok.
09:19<Tuxbubling-#uml->>why the fsck arp see my adress haaving a different MAC ?
09:19<caker-#uml->>what is 10.50.50.2? the UML's IP?
09:20<Tuxbubling-#uml->>fuck sorry
09:20<caker-#uml->>:)
