12:55<jdike:#uml>Hi guys
12:57<caker:#uml>01101000011001010110110001101100011011110010000001101010011001010110011001100110
12:58<jdike:#uml>Oh no
13:04<jdike:#uml>perl has no scanf
13:04<thomas_adam:#uml>Not inherently, see: String::Scanf.

13:29<darodrig:#uml>Hi all. Good morning. Maybe an stupid question about uml. I have on my inittab ttyS0::respawn:/sbin/getty -L ttyS0 9600 vt100. So every time the uml boots its gets a /dev/pts/XX on bbotup. Is there a way I can force it at bootup to get a fixed /dev/pts all the time?
13:30<jdike:#uml>You'd have to make sure that the same pts device is always available
13:30<jdike:#uml>and I don't know how to do that
13:31<jdike:#uml>why do you want a fixed pts device?
13:31<darodrig:#uml>I wanted for automation. I have built a simulated switch using uml and we have many scripts to do automation testing.
13:32<jdike:#uml>you can ask UML what pts device it got
13:32<darodrig:#uml>Yes. I did that so far. Thanks That's how I am working for now.
13:33<jdike:#uml>you can do it backwards
13:33<darodrig:#uml>what do you mean?
13:33<jdike:#uml>open the pts device on the host, then pass the slave side to UML as a tty: device
13:34<darodrig:#uml>Oh. I read something about that in your book. I re-read that again. Maybe that will help me.
13:37<darodrig:#uml>One last question. Besides performance improvements , is there memory usage improvements using SKAS3? I am using SKAS0 with 2.6.24.3 and 2.6.29 but now that there are some users memory on the servers are becoming an issue.
13:37<jdike:#uml>no
13:37<jdike:#uml>it's just performance
13:38<jdike:#uml>with VMs of any technology, memory is something you worry about
13:38<darodrig:#uml> Yes I know and every line card that we have now is like 256Meg so it is becoming an issue. Thanks for your help.

15:11<ra12q:#uml>hi all -- i've created some root_fses with success and everything boots, but when it comes to the boot sequence loading kernel modules it's failing because the UML instance is looking for the kernel version of the UML binary -- can I override or instruct the UML instance that it's a different kernel version so modprobe works properly?
15:15<jdike:#uml>no
15:16<ra12q:#uml>is there a solution then? only http://freesoftwarepc.com/projects/gbootroot/ has an option to do this apparently: "Kernel Version" Override the kernel version number found in the kernel header. This will change the /lib/modules/kernel-version directory."
15:17<caker:#uml>don't use modules :)
15:18*ra12q:#uml laughs
15:18<ra12q:#uml>if only
15:18<caker:#uml>why?
15:19<jdike:#uml>modules for one kernel version won't work in another
15:19<jdike:#uml>that's why they are tied to the kernel version
15:20<ra12q:#uml>hmm

16:39<fo0bar:#uml>jdike: perl basically invented regexp, and you worry about scanf? :)
16:46<jdike:#uml>I was going to parse caker's binary
